Filler in anime is the way they compensate by airing non-canon episodes to reach a certain quota that may affect the overall flow of the anime. These usually consist of episodes that do not belong in the source material’s main story or an anime original. Most of the reason why they do this is to drag out the anime episodes to not catch up to the source material such as manga, light novels, etc. Hence, avoiding the trouble of inadequate material to adapt. It is better to release an episode than to not provide the audience content in a consistent scheduling manner.

Filler Episode Plots
Episode 59
Here’s the very first filler episode of Inuyasha. Here, we will see Kagome walking back to her home and seeing Sango coming into their home. Afterward, she showed her new weapon to Kagome but it’s broken. The next scene shows Inuyasha and his friends going to an abandoned village full of corpses as he was also smelling Naraku’s scent on them.
Here, we also discover that Sano was actually fighting the demons and rejected Inuyasha’s offer for help. It turns out that the village was destroyed by Naraku’s demons and wanted to take revenge on Naraku. Then, we see a glimpse of their flashback full of familial tragedies that were happening upon them. This episode actually explores Sango’s past and Naraku’s past which I will decide to not tell as it reveals a huge turning point for her story.
Episode 63-65
Botan and Momiji devise a plan on how to defeat the demons who are after Tsubaki. Upon their arrival in school, two priestesses appear before their sight. Botan asks about their identity and Kagome explains that they are the people who’ve fought demons for a very long time. The priestesses told them that they are studying to become full-fledged priestesses with Tsubaki, as their leader and mentor. Kagome came to the conclusion that it is indeed hard to become a priestess after she heard their explanation on how to become one.
The first episode of this filler arc episode may sound mundane and mostly dialogues but it added some humorous approach to the dynamics of Kagome and the two priestesses showing their endearing personalities as pre-teen girls.
After Inuyasha and the gang’s little conversation with the girls, they entered the Ogre Fortress as they encountered a priestess who was an ogre from her past and transformed into an ogre after deceiving Inuyasha.
The final filler episode of this arc begins with an argument between Sango and Miroku about having a child. Miroku only wants one child whereas Sango says that they need two to keep the family line and the business. During this time, Inuyasha and Kagome are battling against a giant centipede. The centipede wasn’t that strong and was finished off by Miroku’s special move, Wind Tunnel.
They then receive praises from the village for their achievement. Kagome then asks Miroku to stay in the village to protect it, but he has a hilarious reason to reject it. They don’t have attractive women in the village.
By the way, the 64th episode has nothing to do with the main story because it was stated that the content of the episode is in the middle of the manga’s storyline that hasn’t been published yet during that time.
Episode 68
The episode begins with an invitation for a duel on fighting Soten. Inuyasha and the gang saw the invitation and immediately left towards the specific location of their duel. Soten was revealed to be appearing as a small child. Soten tells his plan of the duel to his little dragon pet. Koryu pushed a boulder at their group to isolate Shippo from the others. Thus, captured Shippo in a net and brought him to the castle of Soten.
Shippo is surprised by Soten because of his appearance as a small child, making him mad. They soon commenced a war of drawings when both of them flashed drawings at each other.
The fights escalated when Koryu failed to capture Inuyasha. Inuyasha then hits himself in the head for it. Afterward, both Soten and Shippo are tired from their fight. Inuyasha and Kagome are able to go to Soten’s castle and see the two exhausted. As the episode ends, they revealed Soten’s true gender is actually a girl and show a frame of Soten’s drawing of Shippo.
Episode 72
Inuyasha goes to Tottosai in order to learn about breaking through Naraku’s barrier. Inuyasha meets Bunza, a young lynx demon whose purpose is also to train under Tottosai in order to defeat the demon, Nanafushi, and save his tribe. Through Inuyasha’s sympathy and benevolence, he decided to help Bunza save his village.
After helping, they started the battle with Nanafushi and finally defeated him as Inuyasha destroyed the barrier with his wind scar. Soon after, Inuyasha realized he was just used in “training” to prepare his bath which made him angry. But the episode ended with a good note of asking Myoga about passing the method of breaking the barriers to Inuyasha.
Episode 75-77
Sesshomaru, Jaken, and A-Un took Rin to the Valley of Ryūkotsusei. Koga sees a bunch of panther demons heading somewhere unknown to them. But Koga immediately dismisses it because it has nothing to do about them. Inuyasha realized that Kagome had still not come back for three days and decided to go get her. Inuyasha finally arrived in Higurashi Village asking the people about Kagome’s whereabouts, then they answered that she is in school. Inuyasha is playing with Buyo until Kagome arrives and is surprised by Inuyasha picking her up.
When Inuyasha and Kagome returned to the Feudal era, they received a warning from Sango, Shippo, and Hachi about the panthers. It is revealed that the panthers have a grudge against Sesshōmaru with hopes of getting revenge on the Son of the Dog General. Once the panthers saw Kagome had a Shikon no Tama shards, they kidnapped her. Her friends come to the rescue but fail to pursue them due to Inuyasha losing the track of their scent. Inuyasha uses the Red Tessaiga to break a possible barrier set up there.
Inuyasha successfully breaks through the barrier and is on his way with his friends to save Kagome. Kagome, being kidnapped, has been thrown into a prison in the panthers’ fortress. Meanwhile, Sesshōmaru is nearing the castle and is being confronted by Toran. Inuyasha and the gang arrived at the village. However, Miroku and Sango were kidnapped and imprisoned together with Kagome. Inuyasha listens to Jaken about Sesshōmaru’s actions towards them in the past. They realized that Kagome, Miroku, and Sango were actually being used as a sacrifice to revive their leader.
The Panther Devas have successfully animated the Panther King’s body due to Kagome’s Shikon no Tama shards. Inuyasha and Sesshōmaru started to work together and began their fight with the Panther King. Eventually, they are able to defeat the Panther King when the wielded weapon of Sesshōmaru, Tenseiga, was able to remove the souls of the panther demons inside from the Panther King’s body, and immediately the body was destroyed by Inuyasha. After their defeat, they vow not to return and attack the Dog Demons again.

It was immediately revealed that Kuranosuke was actually in love with Sango years ago. To Miroku’s dismay, he won’t possibly stop her marriage to another man despite his feelings. Though, Sango is actually not reciprocating Kuranosuke’s feelings.
Inuyasha and the gang finally defeated the Bear Demon. Revealing that the Demon was actually the one they defeated years ago. The 78th episode ended in a bittersweet manner after knowing the unsuccessful love of Kuranosuke when he decided to give up pursuing her. Meanwhile, Miroku and Sango have a short yet sweet moment together indicating that they slowly accept each other.
Episode 79
A crimson moon lit the night when Kagura is seen going outside from Naraku’s castle. The next day, here we see a mundane yet fun scene of Inuyasha’s group playing rock-paper-scissors. Meanwhile, the next scene shows Jakan summoning a demon born from human regrets, using it for his attempt of stealing Inuyasha’s treasures. The demon confronted the gang and robbed them except Inuyasha.
They tried to steal Tessaiga and successfully did after multiple attempts when they created a fake Hotspring for distraction. However, Rin threw the Tessaiga because Rin chose Jakan over it. Because of this, Kagura kidnapped Rin for what she did by throwing Tessaiga.
Episode 89-101
Buckle up your seats because this is the longest filler arc of Inuyasha. Twelve episodes of fillers are too long for anime standards. This may look intimidating but don’t worry, I will explain them by episodes unlike the previous arcs here. Each episode will be explained in a very brief manner. I won’t summarize all episodes of this arc into one, but instead, I will tell each episode’s summary.
Episode 89
The episode begins with Kagome being sick. This led to Inuyasha being angry. Then Kagome decided to come back to the present era to get better. However, Inuyasha is out gathering some material for Kagome’s cold. After realizing Kagome is in the modern era, he goes to her house and gives her an antidote his mother taught him to make. It is a medicine that can cure her in an instant.
This episode shows an endearing sympathy between the characters and how they are willing to exert a lot of effort when concerned with the people they’re close to.
Episode 90
After Kagome’s cold is gone and her exams in school are over, she spends time with Inuyasha in the modern era. Suddenly, they see Sota in the flower shop looking for some flowers. Sota tells them about his crush, Hitomi. He asked Inuyasha for advice on how to tell his feelings but after two failed attempts, he finally confessed to Hitomi. And the good thing is she accepted it.
This episode shows an adorable and innocent love of Sota as the main characters spend their time in the modern era.
Episode 91
Kuroro, the Nekomata, is driven out by a faith healer named Tesso. Inuyasha’s group came to the village where Tesso resides. Then they meet a young girl named Koume who is seeking the Nekomata. The reason why Tesso has driven out Kuroro is that he is a rat demon that hates cats but his actual goal is to invade the village.
Inuyasha and the gang investigated after hearing the testimonies of the villagers. He then found Tesso and fought him but he realized that the Tesso he was fighting was just an illusion, but immediately found out the real Tesso which he successfully killed. Finally, Kuroro and her kittens are allowed to return to the village together with Koume.
Episode 92
Inuyasha and friends met Enju, who is a young woman who was resurrected by the demon ogress, Urasue, just like Kikyo. Elsewhere, there is a battle going on during the stormy night. Warriors defend the castle from what appears to be pottery soldiers. A man named Kawaramaru rides a horse, attacks the wall of the castle, and kills countless soldiers when he commands his pottery soldiers.
While this is happening, Inuyasha’s group is sleeping elsewhere in a small campfire. But a scent caught Inuyasha’s nose that was similar to Kikyo. He decided to run towards it. Kawaramaru is set to attack another castle but is intervened by Inuyasha as he shatters the pottery soldiers. Ultimately, he destroys Kawaramaru.
Enju shows her character development when she decides to give life a second chance due to her resurrection.
Episode 93
Inuyasha and the gang are still on their journey. They randomly arrived in a village which revealed that the residents there were victims of scams by Miroku. However, it sounds absurd because of the fact that Miroku was with the villagers for a long time, which led them to the conclusion that someone is impersonating him. Miroku deduced that it is someone who knows him well. They finally caught the culprit, Hachiemon. It was revealed that he did it because of his hunger and promises not to do it again.
This filler episode manages to insert a mystery-solving element which could essentially give an overall vibe of this show about its unexplored mysteries too.
Episode 94
Inuyasha and the gang meet Izumo, amysterious scholar who has knowledge about Kagome’s shards, Shikon No Tama. Izumo explains the Shikon No Tama and the battle between demons and Midoriko. They meet a boy named Shōsuke, whose parents were kidnapped last night by demons. Then they learned about the demon named Orochidayū.
The demon is actually creating fake Shikon No Tamas by capturing humans. As they confronted Orochidayū, they were kidnapped by the monkey demons. And when the gang tried to save them, the bull demon used its power to attack them and suddenly vanished into thin air.
Episode 95
Kagome is held captive when she is kidnapped by the bull demon. Inuyasha is searching for her. Here’s the little plot twist, when Izumo reveals himself to be the same bull demon, Gyu-oh. He is a hanyō, who is a human at day, and yokai at night. His intention all along is to use Kagome and her friends’ souls for creating the real Shikon No Tama. He chased Kagome all night but the day came which caused him to revert into human form. Ultimately, Izumo died as a human due to the toxicity of the fake Shikon No Tama that he possessed.
This small filler could be important because it explores bits of information about Kagome’s Shikon No Tama that might be useful for the future plot progression of the canon story.
Episode 96
Rin is being attacked by a group of Saimyōshō. Jaken tried hard to protect her but he was unfortunately poisoned by one of the Saimyōshō. Rin is worried about his condition and immediately searches for medicinal berries because otherwise, he will die if left without treatment.
Inuyasha and the gang saw the Saimyōshōs that poisoned Jaken and tried to follow them. Afterward, Sesshomaru arrives and fights Inuyasha because he believed that he killed the Saimyōshōs. However, the fight was halted when Kagome stopped them and told Sesshomaru about Naraku’s disappearance.
Meanwhile, at the valley, A-un is defending the gang from the demons and Sesshomaru ends up saving Rin from falling from the cliff. Ultimately, Sesshomaru saves Jaken when he gives the medicinal berries while Rin is still asleep. Thus, the episode ended with a good note for Jaken’s health.
Episode 97
Inuyasha and the gang are sleeping. However, Kirara wakes up in the middle of the night and immediately leaves the group for an unknown reason. The others are worried because she hasn’t returned for the whole day. Because of this, Shippo is starting to assume and blame Inuyasha for her disappearance, accusing him of their poor treatment which drives her away.
It is later revealed that Myoga took Kirara to run some errand and Shippo was supposed to inform Inuyasha and the others about it. But Shippo forgot to do so, causing their concern for nothing. In retrospect, Shippo is the one who is to blame for their unnecessary concern.
Episode 98
There is a demon that disguises as a cave and lures Kikyō. It looks like a young child lost in the forest and was able to trap her in an appearance of a cave. The next day, Kagome senses a jewel shard and proceeds to follow to the same cave that lured and trapped Kikyō.
Inuyasha is anxiously waiting for Kagome to return. Kagome and Kikyō are still trapped in the cave and soon they encounter demons. However, Kagome is able to fight them off. When they approached the core of the cave, they found the demon’s heart. Meanwhile, Inuyasha runs out of patience and decides to search for Kagome. At this time, Kagome and Kikyō defeated the demon when they combined their power to destroy the demon’s heart. Kagome, later on, finds Inuyasha which is annoyed because he was worried sick.
Inuyasha at the end of the episode shows a little bit of tsundere personality due to his concern for Kagome.
Episode 99
Hakaku and Ginta encounter Sesschomaru as they are searching for food. Both of them remember Sesshomaru’s attitude when they were told by Kagome about him. When Hakaku and Ginta together with Koga walk towards the river, they realize that they are going in the same direction as Sesshomaru.
Eventually, they met and no battle took place despite their confrontation. Koga explains the reason to Hakaku and Ginta. It was because they didn’t have any issues with each other beforehand.
Though this is a filler episode, it was stated that this is the first time Koga and Sesshomaru meet as supporting protagonist members.
Episode 100
Inuyasha and the gang encounter a Moth Demon. It feeds from emotions such as fear and despair. The demon entrapped most of Inuyasha’s friends in a cocoon. Inside the cocoon, they are forced to have a dream of their worst nightmares and memories. Inuyasha, being the only one who is free, is enraged and tries to destroy the cocoons but fails because of their regeneration. Eventually, they break free from the cocoons because of their dream of trusting Inuyasha to save them if needed.
This filler subtly tells their character dynamics of how much trust they put in Inuyasha despite their foolish acts towards him. Moreover, each character shows their deepest fears. It is better to watch it and you’ll know each of their fears because otherwise, it might ruin your investment in these characters if I explain it here.
Episode 101
Miroku hears news about a snow maiden scaring the village men. The snow maiden has the form of a female human from his youth. Miroku encounters her in the middle of a blizzard, she takes him into her house, and it appears she is taking a bunch of children but it turns out that they are just illusions. Miroku then realizes that he is under her spell. Inuyasha’s help just arrived.
They realized that Koyuki, the snow maiden, is possessed by a demon. They worked together and successfully destroyed the demon, freeing her spirit. They showed that her spirit is a girl who was killed in a war. Taking the souls of children until the demon came to control her.
A bit of a sad episode to see especially the unfortunate demise of the girl even after death when she was controlled by the demon. Good thing the episode ended with a satisfying conclusion.
Episode 127-130
This arc consists of a bunch of scenes that are from the manga, but the majority of the scenes are anime originals. Some of the scenes in this arc leave an important plot point for the actual story. It is better to watch this filler arc because otherwise, you’ll be missing out.
Episode 127
Kagome is returning to the modern era because of a cultural festival. Naraku in this part almost completed all of the Shikon Jewel but cannot find the final one. Naraku finds the demon who is capable of hearing things all over the world and asks it about the final Shikon Jewel’s location.
Kagome supposedly returns to her home to relax. But instead, she ended up helping for the cultural festival in her school. Kagome is bringing dried food to her home. But without her knowledge, those foods actually turn into demons when boiled.
The first episode of this filler arc has adapted a few bits from the manga but the rest of the scenes are anime original. Therefore, the majority of episode 127 is anime original.
Episode 128
Continuing the events, Kagome is done doing her duty for the cultural festival. One of the demons came to life as dried food and sneaked up to Kagome. Inuyasha is able to kill it easily and explains its nature to Kagome. She brought four pieces of dried food, meaning the other three are still there. Hence, the whole episode is dedicated to their search of the dried food demons until they completely obliterated them.
The end of the episode reveals a huge plot point of the whereabouts of the final shard. It is better to watch it yourself as it is part of the actual plot from the manga.
Episode 129
Maidens are being abducted by a demon named Chokyūkai, and are being controlled and forced to reside in a cave. Kisuke asks for Inuyasha’s help with their situation. The demon is confronted by Inuyasha and the gang.
He puts the diadem on Kagome’s head and brainwashed her to fall in love with him thus bringing her to the castle. They came up with a plan to defeat him. Their fight is hilarious because some of Inuyasha’s gang are getting out of their characters to defeat the demon.
Episode 130
Inuyasha killed a demon who was terrorizing Shippo and the fox demons. Having the fox demon thought of Shippo as the leader, they have high expectations for Shippo, who happens to be in love with a girl named Mizuki.
There is a demon terrorizing a village and Shippo is still pretending to be the leader of the group just to impress Mizuki. But ultimately, he just upsets Mizuki and even made her mad due to his mistakes when he was facing the demon. We will never know when Shippo will be able to get redemption and reconcile for his love for Mizuki.
Episode 133-136
There is nothing to talk about in this filler arc because they can’t be explained and summarized entirely unless explained episode by episode.
Episode 133-134
Sara said that she had seen Sesshomaru somewhere before, claiming that she can help him grant his wish. Inuyasha and the gang could have their own dedicated beach episode, but the circumstances won’t allow them to do so. At the seaside, there are a group of nuns mourning because Sara is dying due to her illness. Afterward, they saw the place of the nun burnt down and Sara’s body disappeared. Transitioning to Sesshomaru’s group, Sara appears to them when Sesshomaru hears the flute asking him if he remembers her.
Meanwhile, there is a woman tied to a rock nearby the sea and a demon moving through the sea. Inuyasha and the gang were nearby. While trying to save her, Miroku and Sango turned into a glassy stone but they saved the woman. She explained that she is a “sacrifice” for the Water Hod and was easily destroyed by Inuyasha. The only way to turn them back is to go to the Water God’s shrine and turn the stone inside. But they failed to turn them back despite their efforts and Umineko smiled suspiciously.
Sara’s intense feeling for Sesshomaru was shown when she stole Inuyasha’s Tessaiga and showed it to Sesshomaru. But he didn’t accept it. And meanwhile, Miroku and Sango returned to normal from being glassy stones. Sara became a hanyō when she offered her soul to the demons when she was dying so she could see Sesshomaru.
When they confronted each other, he asked Sara if her true form is a demon. He sliced her in half revealing her true form. The demons whom she sold her soul to reveal that they are not after anything except Sesshomaru. He then immediately picks up Tessaiga to destroy the demons and Sara slowly turns into ash, grateful for him saving and freeing her soul.
By the way, the two episodes are aired as a one-hour special.
Episode 135
Inuyasha and the gang are discussing the strange killing of monks and priests in temples. Hachiemon appears, telling Miroku that Monk Mushin will die because he was puking blood. Miroku is concerned because he is close to the monk mentioned.
They go to the temple for confirmation and it is true indeed that he will die. Miroku and his friends are doing good things to him so he can die peacefully. They helped him fulfill his last wish to get some rare sake, they got into some little trouble but were able to obtain it. They handed him the sake and told old stories. Until he immediately falls asleep as Miroku screams out in pain for his demise.
However! The episode ended hilariously because it turns out that the monk is not dying. The reason he’s throwing up blood is that he choked on a chicken bone.
Episode 136
There is a demon who is stealing valuable things from wealthy temples. When Inuyasha and the gang heard of it, they called the Madame Exorcist once again. With her sutra and Shippo’s fox magic, Shippo and Sango became invisible and used the opportunity for their self-interests. Shippo annoys Inuyasha and Sango flirts with other women whilst spying on Miroku. But they were seen right away because it ran out for a few minutes.
Eventually, they are able to stop the demon when it fails to sneak in near Inuyasha. It begs them to be spared, promising that he will never steal again.
Episode 137-140
In this arc, the episodes will not be explained one by one because all episodes here are connected with their previous and next episodes. Hence, episodes 137-140 will be explained in one.
Episode 137-140
Kagome is not doing well on her history test in school. Hōjō immediately shows his family tree, showing that his ancestor Akitoki Hōjō married a woman named Kagome. She wonders if she will eventually marry him. Meanwhile, a change of scene is showing Akitoki Hōjō is meeting up with Inuyasha telling about a wicked blade that cursed his family.
Kaede told them about the location where they can purify the blade and it’s on Furai Shrine. During their journey towards the shrine, they are attacked by the Demon Ninjas, leaving Akitoki and Kagome falling into a river.
Inuyasha and the gang are searching for Kagome and Akitoki. But they are being confronted by a group of Demon Ninjas led by Hoshiyomi, with the desire to steal the wicked blade to complete the Naginata of Kenkon. Hoshiyomi asked about Inuyasha’s interference.
Getting an answer that Hoshiyomi is not allowed to wield that kind of weapon. Meanwhile, Akitoki and Kagome are alone in the forest being attacked by the Demon Ninjas and kidnapping Kagome to bring her to Hoshiyomi. Hoshiyomi grasped the unconscious Kagome and asked her life’s worth if it is less important than the weapon.
Hoshiyomi took Kagome to the Furai shrine explaining his objective once he got the weapon. It is to kill every human because of his past when a woman named Tsukiyomi betrayed him hence his hatred for humans. When Inuyasha and the gang tried to save Kagome, they were interfered with and attacked by Hoshiyomi’s underlings. Miroku ultimately defeated them all. As they arrive at the Furai shrine, they confront Hoshiyomi for their final face-off.
Hoshiyomi completed his Naginata of Kenkon which is rendering him to be almost invincible. Hoshiyomi questioned their love for Kagome and responded with Akitoki’s confession. He remembers again his experience of betrayal from Tsukiyomi. Tsukiyomi appears as a spirit before Hoshiyomi to speak to him once again. She explained the truth about her betrayal.
It was all because the Naginata of Kenkon possessed Hoshiyomi that she sealed him away so she could save him, but she died before doing them all. Hoshiyomi still wants to kill the humans despite the answer, but he is finally killed by Inuyasha and purified by Kagome’s sacred arrow.
This filler is fun to watch if you want some melancholic story behind their battle while Miroku taught us in this filler arc what it means to be human.
Episode 162-163

Ungai arrived and easily destroyed Ongokuki and saved the children afterward. Rin is supposed to go back to the village with Ungai, but she refuses because she wants to go to Sesshomaru. She screamed, calling for Sesshomaru and he immediately showed and left the monks stunned by his power. Ungai is also shocked as to why Rin will go with a demon.
Episode 163
Finally, the last episode of this filler. Instead of a typical slice of life and action that we have for the fillers. This episode brings a little melancholic vibe to leave for the viewers. So here’s the story:
